i don’t condone the e-mailer’s actions, but…
…i imagine it’s reasonably likely that she called up one of those sleazy debt consolidation companies that run commercials at 3am. they often tell you stop paying your credit card and that they’ll handle it all for a small monthly fee. what they’re really doing is convincing the credit card company that you’ll never pay the money and offering them to settle for a much smaller, negotiated price.
your credit score tanks, but the debt is gone.
