I have never NEVER gone into debt for gifts… I shop all year and save thousands of dollars on the stuff I buy. I feel no pressure, I give ONLY to who I desire to give to and NEVER give out of obligation.

Yep, to shut my (now ex) boyfriends mother up. She was always griping that we didn’t get EVERYONE presents, or that we left someone out. I didn’t care how much I spent that year, it got her to shut up!

Christmas, like everything else in life, is what you make of it. It doesn’t matter that “it has become so commercial” or whatever. I love buying gifts, and get a total thrill of seeing my family/friends open what I’ve given. I do use a credit card to pay for gifts, but only because I order online or becasue it is much easier to return, if needed. I will have the bill paid by February at the latest.

I give some people candy that we make, and I can tell you, it is a very sought-after gift. People start asking about it in the summer! For everyone else, I set a personal limit of $40., as that is what I can reasonably afford. I’ve also told some friends I need to opt out of gift giving altogether.

Don’t do more than you can. Set your own limits and stick to them. Christmas is about joy and happiness, not resentment at feeling pressured.

I never go in debt to buy gifts. Staying within my budget is my moto. It takes too long to get out of debt.

I know what you mean. I think that the sentiment of it all is lost at times of what Christmas is about. I would rather have my family and friends around me that I love then any gifts. A simple card would do and if that is homemade, even better. My kid made something in wood class and I told him thanks for the Christmas present. He was going on and on about getting me something and I pointed out to him that what he made was just what I wanted ( and it is).
Here is what I do when I do not have enough money to buy lavish gifts for everyone. Go to the dollar store and get Christmas coffee mugs (or what kind you like) Put some candy canes and other candy in it ( or whatever suits you) and wrap it in saran wrap with a bow. Viola, and not very expensive.

I used to do that. But, I no longer believe in celebrating the holidays. These holidays have pagan roots and have nothing to do with Christ. He wasn’t even born on Dec 25. This is a way for Satan to get to people and encourage them to go against Gods teachings. Birthdays were only celebrated by pagan worshippers during the bible times. People are almost compelled to celebrate these holidays because of pressure from family and friends. When my daughter was growing up, I bought things for her all during the year and wrapped them up. But I did not do it for a certain occassion. She was always surprised because she didn’t expect it. Now children demand to have gifts on Christmas. I sympathize with you.

You shouldn’t buy gifts until your credit card bulges… It is ok to buy your relatives and friends gifts but keep it simple. You don’t need to go into debt to buy them things that they probably won’t appreciate and they would end up selling the item on Ebay anyways. You shouldn’t bankrupt yourself just to please everyone around you. Make a simple gift like something under $10.00 and you won’t go deep into debt.

Well I came close to going into Debt because like most people, we all want to be able to please our family and friends in hopes that they like what we give them. I do feel pressure though, especially this year because I have certain items that m fiance wants and Im having a hard time finding them. I know he will like whatever I get him anyway but I really want to show him that I tried hard to find this rare item. All you have to do is keep your head up and don’t go crazy!
