My capital one credit card bill came in the mail after my due date. What should i do?

credit card bill
me asked:

what if this was a one time thing? i paid my bill in full but im worried since it’s my first credit card bill that i am off to a bad start. i am normally a perfectionist and pay everything on time. could this affect my credit score if it’s the only time it will happen?

This is standard practice of Capital One.
They profit greatly by late fees. Stop using their services.

Call them and talk to them. They may waive it, they may not, but often frst time problems (even when they are your fault) will not trigger pain. But they might–the contract gives them the right to do so; it’s written so that it’s really your responsibility to make sure the bill arrives and you pay it. But not calling them is the worst thing you can do now.

I have had that happen and if you call them usually they will be more than happy to accommodate any inconvenience they may have caused.

Call them and tell them you are paying in full and ask to drop late charges. If they don’t drop the late fees cut up the card.

Call the bank and let them know what happened. They should be willing to waive the late fee, if there is one, as a courtesy. If not, request to speak to a manager.

A payment has to be 30 days past the due date to be reported negatively on your credit report. Yet, this won’t stop you from getting a $39 late fee. Credit card companies LOVE this…they make billions from these fees. I’d strongly advise to sign up with their online bill pay and pay online so you don’t have to worry about such issues. Be sure to monitor your account for changing due dates….

Capital one is a pain in the ****!!! I have had my card for about 8 years, was late paying online by 30 minutes and they gave me a late fee. They only reversed it when I told them to cancel the card.

It doesn’t hurt to call and try to ask them to reverse the fee. It they do, then there shouldn’t be a negative mark on your credit report either. Then I would suggest getting rid of this card and going with another company (citicards needs to have the best customer service).

    Good luck to you.

Call them and ask if they are charging a late fee, explain your dilema and ask them if they would wave any late fees.If the person you talked to ask to speak to their superviser.I have got 2 over the limit fees dropped with Capitol One.No the late fee will not go against you if you get it waved plu you paid the full balance which looks good for you but you may want to maintain a balance that you pay mounthly and always pay extra each mounth. This is what is known as establishing a good credit history. As if you pay the bill in full that means you have no credit history and you will have a lower credit rating.Good Luck and call Cap 1 first thing tomorow.

the advice of ‘call them’ is absolutely right - they should be pretty flexible. on another note, i have capital one and would advise you to use their online account system - you can set up e-mail notifications and check your statements whenever you want and pay online - avoiding all the mail issues. you can also stop paper statements and do ‘electronic delivery only’ - which i would advise for just about any bill you have since it makes life so much easier and eliminates the risk of someone stealing your mail and perpetrating identity theft.
